Yes, I'm well aware of that.
However, I was hoping that IBM/Lotus had done something positive with the servlet engine in ND6.
That would save me/us from having to bother with WebSphere at all.
It may be a free copy, but installing, configuration and maintenance are certainly not free.

There are quite a large number of businesses "out there", where the normal Domino performance is just a little bit too slow, and something faster is needed.

These companies, mainly in the SMB-area, are not interested in the investment in WebSphere.
They are well aware of the performance increase using WebSphere, but they also realize that servlets run by the Domino Servlet Engine would be sufficient, if it only did the job properly.
